Star Trek Into Darkness mystery villain revealled or homage?

StarTrekIntoDarkness

Benedict Cumberbatch finds himself in the brig in Star Trek Into Darkness. Where have we seen this before?

WhereNoManHasGoneBefore_05_2

Gary Mitchell (Gary Lockwood) is locked up in “Where No Man Has Gone Before;” Star Trek: TOS.

Speculation that Cumberbatch is playing an updated version of Gary Mitchell has been ongoing for several months (years, even), but today’s release of the top photo above, which directly parallels one of the setups in the original Star Trek episode, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” makes it difficult to think that Cumberbatch is playing anyone other than Mitchell. (Or some sort of  hybrid of Mitchell and other characters, new and old; or perhaps part of a series of “homages” to Star Trek classic moments, which, or course, would not require Cumberbatch to be playing either Khan or Mitchell.)

Abrams says, “This movie was not made for Star Trek fans — it was made for movie fans, but if you’re a Star Trek fan, I think you’ll be really happy. There’s a lot of stuff in here for you.” Does this mean that the movie is going to be filled with homage moments such as the one above?

Humabot

Dr. Korby, Humabot

As far as I know, there is no existing term that can be used to distinguish an android that is created completely anew from an android that is created by transferring a human mind (not brain) into a robot body.

Therefore, I propose to call a robot that is the result of the transference of a human mind into a robot body a Humabot, as in “human robot.”

Dr. Korby, in the Star Trek episode, “What are Little Girls Made Of?,” is a Humabot. Humabots are also featured in Star Man.
